Noah's Ar(gh)k!

The animals walked in two by two,

They all walked in to the ark,
Just to get out of the rain.

Titania is humming this song again and probably seeing it in her head, as she has every Valentine’s Day. The mush in the air brings out the acerbic, cynical side to her and hence to quote Madame.

“The world is a place for pairs or a couple, even language is indicative of that, for e.g. ‘peas in a pod’, pair of shoes, dark and light, day and night, bread butter, and male plug-female plug. We speak of finding balance –yin and yang which is being in touch with the femininity and the masculinity and the dynamics of the two, together, to create a whole. As humans we are programmed towards this, to find that balance and finding that partner.

Unfortunately, for some of us this programming malfunctions and has a delayed reaction time. We only recognize this need for emotional interdependence and an individual to share our life when we are surrounded by couples in our own social group. Of course they communicate with you and still friends with you. Yet, they seem to have developed a means of communication that’s all their own. They also communicate with other couples with a continuing ease which makes you feel a little out of place.

They have launched into a journey, where quite a bit of the time the interaction is between a duo and you begin to recognize the need for such. Becoming aware that if you are not part of a couple then you are the odd man out and you are in effect standing outside the ark in the rain. That’s when you begin to frantically look for that significant other so that you too are a part of a couple and again a part of your ‘estranged’ or shall I say ‘distanced’ social group. This is what I call the “Noah’s Ark Effect’”

That damned Titania is sooo frustrating; I know that when she hums that silly song she wants to be on that boat. When you ask her about it she’ll tell you (depending on her mood) that the boat is sure to be super crowded and lacking in space or that she will build her own boat. Other times, she tells you she is thinking about getting on to that boat. She’s definitely humming the song again!
